Payment requests dressed as job offers

Longer note · updated October 2026

Fake job offers aimed at people looking for extra income change their wording often. What doesn't change is the turn: at some point, the job needs money from you.

Where the turn usually comes

  • Registration. A training, activation or membership fee before you can start.
  • Kits. Equipment or stock you must buy from them.
  • Deposits. Tasks that unlock only after you top up a balance.
  • Forwarding. Receiving money into your account and sending it on. This can involve you in a crime.

Signs before the turn

Unrequested messages, very high pay for simple tasks, contact only through private apps, and pressure to decide today.

What to do

Don't pay or forward anything. Stop replying and report the account where it contacted you. If money has already left your account, call your bank straight away and report it to the police or your country's fraud reporting service.
